Dinner with a Hero – Marc Devlin

Oct 21, 2011 Filed under: BDSM, D/s, excerpts, m/m, menage, paranormal, sci fi, shapeshifter, werewolf

Today I’ll be cooking for Marc Devlin, captain of Shifter’s Station. The four stories in this collection are some of my earliest publications and Marc is a character I think about a lot. Though he’s not always good at expressing it, the love he has for Kirlos and Larissa moves me to tears when I look back at these stories.

Marc grew up in a coastal Terran town and often laments that he can’t get good Terran seafood on his remote space station. Tender, melt in your mouth scallops are his favorite so I’ll make those, coconut couscous, and roasted asparagus. We’ll finish the meal with a dense piece of cheesecake with cherry topping.

I love these seared scallops from Alton Brown.

Coconut milk gives couscous a delicious creamy flavor.

Roated Asparagus: Break off tough ends of asparagus stalks. If you hold the stalk in the middle and snap the end with the other hand, it will usually break in the right place. Place the stalks on a foil-line baking sheet. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with coarse salt. Place under the broiler for approximately 10 minutes or until they start to brown and are tender.

This cherry cheesecake is amazing!

The commander cut off whatever Captain Devlin was going to say. “I have the ability to probe your mind to determine if you’re telling the truth. And if you are lying, I can compel the truth from you.”

Larissa studied him for a moment. He seemed sincere and somewhat dismayed by the captain’s brusque manner. “Do it.”

She felt pressure on her head, as if someone were mashing the heel of their hand against her forehead. Then the pressure turned to pain. It grew sharper until it felt like a needle was boring into her skull.

She felt tension radiating from Adesta. “Stop fighting it.”

“I… can’t. I don’t –”

Then the pain spread as if her skull had cracked. She fell to her knees, panting. The world began to go black. But just before she passed out, the pain disappeared.

“Fires of hell, she’s strong.”

The captain snorted. “Did you get through?”

“Yes, she’s telling the truth.”

Thank the gods. They would have to let her go now. Larissa heard the men speaking, but they sounded very far away. A dull pounding still echoed in her head. Nothing like the tearing pain of the scan, but she still wasn’t sure she could stand.

Then she felt a hand on her arm. It was the commander. She wanted to refuse his assistance, but she didn’t want to be on her knees in front of the captain. He was arrogant enough without her prostrating herself like a slave.

When the commander helped her to her feet, she stepped away and forced herself to focus on Devlin. His dark eyes were narrow and cold. “Who taught you to shield your thoughts?”

“My boss.”

Devlin raised his brows. “You need this ability often on cargo runs?”

“When you take these kinds of jobs, you do.”

He laughed. “I suppose you are right. Federated Transport isn’t exactly a legitimate business.”

“And yours is?”

Adesta’s lips curled into a wicked smile. “You seem to be losing your touch, Captain. You usually have them trembling in their boots by now.”

Larissa just managed to keep from rolling her eyes. The captain might be one delightfully put together man, but she had no intention of rolling over for him. “Can I go now?”

Devlin scowled. “No.”

“The commander has established my innocence.”

“He has established that you were unaware that the weapons were faulty. But I still have one dead crewman and several more injured. Someone has to pay.”

“Yes. That someone is my bastard of a boss.”

“But he’s not here, and you are.”

“Captain.” The warning glare in the commander’s eyes gave Larissa hope he might convince his superior to let her go.

“She stays.”

Larissa’s heart pounded. “You can’t be serious.”

He gave a cold smile. “I’m always serious.”

Larissa clasped her hands behind her back to hide their shaking. “You can’t just keep me here.”

“I can do anything I damn well please.”

“But –”

The captain stepped toward her. She stabbed her nails into her palms, hoping the pain would dull her fear and help her hold her ground.

Devlin grasped the single braid that hung down her back and jerked her head to the side. “I am the law here. No one questions what I do. If I wanted to shove you out an airlock, that’s exactly what I’d do. No one would dare protest.”

She held her breath, and commanded her suddenly rubbery legs to keep her upright.

He let her go and stepped back. “Fortunately for you, I have something far more pleasant in mind as repayment for your crimes.”

Larissa’s lungs burned, but she couldn’t seem to fill them with air. She forced herself to look him in the eye. “I have no intention of letting you punish me for a crime I didn’t commit.”

Adesta smirked. “I like her spirit.”

The captain stared at her intently. “So do I. The spirited ones are so much more fun to break.”

Larissa’s heart hammered against her chest. She knew her eyes were wide and her fear shone all too plainly. She felt like a rabbit cornered by a wolf — a big bad wolf with plans to eat her.

Now why the hell did that thought make her body feel hot and tight? She was so damn wet she’d likely soaked through her flight suit. What was wrong with her?

Devlin took a long, deliberate inhale. “Mmm. I think she likes us more than she wants us to know.”

Shit! The last thing she needed was for him to be aware of how she was responding to them. She needed to convince them to let her go. But before she could think of anything to say, Devlin’s lips curled up in a wicked smile.

“Since you seem so interested in the issue of fairness, why don’t we strike a bargain?”

“What bargain would that be?” Larissa mentally cursed the quaver she heard in her voice.

His smile widened. “I will spend the next two hours convincing you that you want to stay. If you can resist, you go free. If you can’t, you agree to remain on the station as my servant for the next month.”

Larissa took a deep breath. Her initial reaction was to tell him to go to hell, but something told her this might be her only way off the station. “How will you convince me to stay?”

“That’s my secret, but you have my word you will come to no harm.”

“Why should I trust you?”

The captain’s face froze, and a sound too like an animal’s growl rose from his chest.

Larissa glanced at Adesta. He shook his head. “I wouldn’t go down that road if I were you.”

“Fine. If I were to lose, which I have no intention of doing, how would you expect me to serve you?”

The captain’s smile returned instantly. “With every last inch of your naked body.”

Dinner with a Hero – Hank Edwards

Oct 14, 2011 Filed under: book recommendation, excerpts, historical, m/m, paranormal, vampire

Today I’m thrilled to welcome, Hank Edwards, one of my favorite writers. He’s here to share good food and an excerpt from his spooky, sexy, Western adventure, Bounty.

Hi Silvia, thanks so much for inviting me to share a recipe and a bit of story. My partner is the chef in our house, but I love sampling his recipes. He’s adventurous and not afraid to try different ingredients together, whereas I pretty much stick to a written recipe. Even though he’s the cook, I still have a few recipes I haul out and throw together for us, and since it’s October and, like in my Old West vampire/zombie mash up novel “Bounty,” it’s starting to get cooler, this seems like the perfect time for comfort food. To hell with the calories, it’s winter, we need to insulate! (I completely agree! – Silvia)

I’ve selected a recipe for Beef Chow Mein. My mother made this for us kids a lot growing up, it was a filling meal and made a pound of ground beef go a long way. It’s one of my go-to dishes for cold days or those times you just want to sit and digest afterwards. I actually made this recipe for my partner’s wacky cooking show, “Dish and a Drink,” and you can see that episode on here.

This dish is really good fresh out of the oven, but even better warmed up the next day. And, since it’s a Chinese Chow Mein dish, I’ll include an excerpt from my book with Ling Chen, a Chinese frontier girl who has a small but pivotal role in “Bounty,” book one of my Venom Valley Series. Thanks for stopping by, and happy eating!

Beef Chow Mein Dish

Ingredients

1 cup chopped onion

1 cup diced celery

1 ½ pounds ground beef

1 can cream of mushroom soup

1 can cream of chicken soup

1 cup cooked rice

1/8 cup soy sauce

1 small can mushrooms

1 can bean sprouts

1 can sliced water chestnuts

1 can chow mein noodles

1. Brown beef, onion, celery in a skillet. Drain.

2. Add remaining ingredients except chow mein noodles. Mix well.

3. Fold into a 9 x 13 dish.

4. Bake at 350 for 1 hour.

5. Top with chow mein noodles.

6. Bake 5 minutes longer.

7. Let stand 10 minutes before serving.

Bounty by Hank Edwards

Amazon, ARe

Blurb:

Josh Stanton discovers he can raise the dead after his adoptive mother returns and tries to kill him. With a bounty on his head for her murder, Josh flees into the arid plains of Venom Valley, pursued by his best friend and deputy, Dex, and the two finally surrender to the love that’s grown between them. Back in town, a powerful vampire stalks the girls working at the saloon, and Glory, a half white, half Indian saloon girl, depends on her Native American protective spirit to keep her safe as she fights to save her best friend, Edith.

Excerpt:

A sound outside the window brought him back, and Josh jerked his head up. The pale shape of a face hovered behind the glass, almond eyes wide and mouth round with shock. It was Ling Chen, the young Oriental girl Agnes had been instructing in English.

Ling’s eyes shifted between Agnes’s body and Josh’s face.

Josh looked at Agnes, the rifle in his hand, and then back to Ling. In a moment of horrifying clarity, he understood how it must look.

“Ling,” Josh croaked and rose to his feet, looking at the window again.

Ling was gone. Josh stumbled to the door, stepping out into the wind-driven night and squinting against the onslaught of sand. All he saw was the rear end of a horse galloping down the road, Ling hunched low in the saddle, snapping the reins hard as she rushed toward town and the sheriff’s office.

“No, no, no, no,” Josh moaned. He spun in place a moment, looking between the fleeing girl and the inside of the house. What could he do? Ling had seen him by the body, possibly seen him shoot Agnes. Even if he could bury Agnes’s body, there would be questions and accusations, especially because of who he was. He would be thrown in jail, and at some point someone would miss Wayland Overbrooke and ride out to his farm and find him dead in the barn.

“Fuck!” he shouted into the furious wind of the night.

He hurried into the house and slammed the door, leaning back against it as he swept his gaze around the small rooms. He had been raised in this house, had spent hours by the fire with Agnes. How could he leave her like this, with no explanation, no respects paid?

But who would believe him?

Dex, maybe. But Dex was just a deputy. The rest of the town would believe what they wanted, even from a Chinese girl. They had made up their minds about him years ago. He had to run.

Keeping his gaze averted from Agnes’s body, Josh moved through the house. He grabbed clothes, some dried meat, and bread. Crouching before the bookcase, he selected a few favorite books and stuffed them in his pack. Agnes had not only encouraged his reading, she had insisted that he devote time each day to it. He would not let her down now.

Picking up his hat, Josh turned to throw a final look at the body consumed by shadows.

“Rest in peace, Agnes,” he whispered, his voice breaking on her name. “I will always be grateful for you.”

He left the house and pulled the door closed behind him. Clementine stamped and snorted as he mounted her. Josh patted the side of her neck and leaned down to whisper in her ear.

“It’s just us now, Clem.”

He sat up and clicked his tongue as he pulled the reins. Clementine turned, and he urged her into a gallop, heading for the Overbrooke farm. He needed to try and find a connection between the farmer and Agnes. Then he planned to travel further outside of town to the house where he had once lived with his mother. It stood, vacant and decaying, on the edge of the brutal stretch of desert land known by those in Belkin’s Pass as Venom Valley. He would be safe there for a day, maybe two. Perhaps something of his mother’s still lay waiting inside the house that might help explain what happened when he got close to the dead.

Dinner with a Hero – Kajinek

Sep 30, 2011 Filed under: BDSM, D/s, paranormal, recipes, sci fi, shapeshifter, sweet treats

Today I’ll be cooking dinner for the darkly sexy Kajinek, hero of my sci fi story, Seduction of the Captain. Since his self-imposed exile, Kajinek has missed the spicy, aromatic cuisine of his home planet, Lalatia. I think he’ll enjoy Indian food as a substitute so I’m going to make him an Indian feast including tandoori chicken, chick pea curry, naan, raita and kheer.

I love this recipe for Tandoori chicken made on the grill.

I make Naan using the basic bread recipe from Artisan Bread in Five Minutes A Day.

Raita, a cooling yogurt dish is a great accompaniment to spicy food.

Silvia’s Husband’s Chick Pea Curry

2T oil

1 onion, chopped

1 clove garlic minced, or more to taste

1T curry

1T tomato paste

1 15oz can chick peas, drained

1/2T lemon juice

½ t salt

Heat oil. Saute onion until slightly browned. Add garlic and cook 1 min. Add curry and tomato paste and cook 2 min more. Add chick peas, liquid, and lemon juice, salt, and pepper to taste. Cook 10 minutes or until chick peas are soft and flavorful. Serve over basmati rice.

Kheer is an Indian rice pudding that makes a delicious dessert.

Excerpt from Seduction of the Captain which is available at Loose Id, ARe or Amazon.

Kaj opened the door of his resort-class suite and nearly stumbled as a heady female scent hit him with tangible force. He’d yet to probe the mind of the woman who’d interrupted his quiet afternoon, but her submissive needs screamed at him, begging him to take notice. His cock hardened instantly.

Her long blonde hair was pulled back in a braid that reached her waist. He fought the urge wrap it around his hand and crush her against him. Her skintight flight suit left little of her body to his imagination. Her muscles tensed under his gaze, and her green-gold eyes studied him suspiciously. She reminded him of a feline preparing to spring. He could smell her desire. Apparently he was affecting her as much as she affected him.

“Kajinek of Lalatia?”

He nodded, not sure he could keep the predatory growl out of his voice.

“I’m Captain Saida Alexander of the Allied Mercenary Corporation ship the Ascendant. I’ve come to offer you a job.”

Kaj smiled. He’d heard of Captain Alexander. She was well respected as a hard-ass leader who always accomplished her mission objective. For a captain of her standing to show up unannounced at his personal quarters, she must be desperate for his help. This must be his lucky day. “Do come in.”

He pressed at the edges of her impressive mental shields and gleaned just enough information to confirm what was already clear to him. While he doubted anyone else realized it, Captain Alexander longed to find a man strong enough to dominate her. She was desperate for the release she could never find with a partner who refused to test the limits of her strong will.

He’d not met a woman this compatible for his needs since leaving Lalatia. And he wasn’t about to let her get away. Before this day ended, she would be his.

“Have a seat, Captain.” He gestured toward the plush chairs in the small seating area near the window, which overlooked the station garden. “I’ll order us some refreshments.”

The sexy captain moved through his quarters with silent, controlled grace. He suppressed a shudder of anticipation as he imagined how she would move under him as he thrust deep in her body. If he didn’t watch it, he wasn’t going to be able to focus on the business at hand. He’d take whatever job she was offering, but he doubted she’d like his terms.

He knew his smile must be particularly predatory when her eyes widened. By Varin, she was going to be a feast. “Would you like some coffee?”

She still looked wary, but now he saw a hint of a smile. “Real, honest-to-God coffee?”

He laughed. “Of course.”

“Yes, please.”

He walked to his comm unit and pressed down the button that connected him with the resort concierge. “Please send up coffee and an assortment of pastries immediately.”

“Yes, sir.”

Captain Alexander smiled, briefly losing her controlled exterior and looking almost girlish. “You needn’t go to the trouble, but I do appreciate it. I haven’t tasted real coffee in months.”

Her joy at this simple gesture stirred something in him even stronger and more potent than lust. Hearing her cry out his name as he whipped her ass would be delicious. But satisfying her enough to bring that smile to her face might feed something more than physical hunger in him. The thought unnerved him but made him no less determined to have her.

He sat in the chair facing hers. “So you’re in need of a pilot?”

The captain nodded. “The last pilot I hired proved unsatisfactory. We have a job in three days. I’d like you in the pilot’s chair.”

“What is this job?” His sensitive ears heard her pulse accelerate. What was she up to?

“We will act as escort for three ships intent on sailing through the Rebel-controlled sector of Quadrant 16. They’ll appear to be private cargo ships, but they’ll be manned by Imperial Intelligence agents.”

Kaj snarled. “I don’t do Imperial jobs.”

Captain Alexander arched a brow and held his gaze. The delicious smell of her fear belied her confidence. “I’ve heard you’ll take any job as long as the price is right.”

He gestured at the opulent room. “Does it look like I’m in need of work?”

“Lovely as all this is, you don’t strike me as a man who likes to sit on his ass. I think you need to fly. I think you need the rush of danger.”

He smiled, knowing she could see the swirl of orange and yellow flames in his eyes, a sure sign of a Lalatian’s anger or lust. “I do enjoy a thrill, but I can get that right here. You seem like a rather dangerous woman.”

Anger flashed in her eyes. The scent of fear deepened.

The doorbell rang, signaling the arrival of coffee. Kaj was thankful for the distraction. His cock was harder than a steel rod, and he was close to pinning Captain Alexander to the wall and taking exactly what he wanted. His lack of control was appalling, but she was doing things to his libido that made him feel like a boy with his first trainer.

He took the tray from the delivery bot and poured coffee for the captain. As he handed her the mug, he let his fingers brush hers. He was rewarded by her sharp intake of breath.

The contact distracted her, and he felt her fear ease, supplanted in part by lust. He couldn’t help but smile as he sat down, taking a sip of the delicious, strong coffee he’d grown addicted to.

Guest Blogger: Hank Edwards

Sep 20, 2011 Filed under: guest blogger, m/m, paranormal, vampire

I’m thrilled to have the charming and talented Hank Edwards as my guest today. Hank, tell us about your awesome new release.
My latest release is “Bounty,” the first book of my Venom Valley Series. It’s a self published book in which I combine a number of different genres: paranormal, Old West, m/m romance, and a little m/f.

I fell in love with this story and couldn’t put it down!

What is your favorite genre to write? What other genres do you enjoy?
I really seem to gravitate toward contemporary romantic comedy. And even when I write outside that genre, I have to add a bit of sass from one or more character. I do enjoy all genres, but have to say that comedy and suspense / thriller are my favorites. Crazy, isn’t it?

Do you have a favorite character from one of your books?
You know, I do. In my Charlie Heggensford series of books, I introduced a woman at the end of book one, Fluffers, Inc., named Bernice Tallipepper. She is a divorced mother of 4 adult age children who moved to LA from Minnesota and started working the front desk at Fluffers, Inc. She’s been really fun to write, and I hope to get back to that series some time in the near future and bring Bernice back into an adventure. I love Bernice 🙂

Is there a style or genre of writing that you haven’t tired yet but you’d like to explore?
With Bounty I’m kind of hitting a number of genres at once: western, horror, suspense, so I think I’m pretty much covered.

How do you make time in your life for writing?
It’s really the biggest challenge. I work full time and watch more TV than I should, but I seem to find time right after dinner and in the mornings on the weekends. Some weekends I get lucky and I can write the whole day. Now that I’m part of the Story Orgy group, five writers who post free m/m reads on our blogs every Monday morning, I have to get at least 1,500 words done a week. Sometimes that takes time away from my book writing, but I’ve found it’s good practice, and I’ve developed some great stories from that writing, like “Wicked Reflection,” which turned into a novella and is part of the upcoming Story Orgy anthology which is due to be released from Breathless Press the end of this year.

What do you like to read? Do you have some favorite authors?
I read Stephen King, Janet Evanovich, James Rollins, Sue Grafton, Josh Lanyon, Lee Brazil, Em Woods, Silvia Violet (of course!), and a slew of others. I like to bounce back and forth between m/m romance and suspense thrillers or mysteries.

If you decide to take a Saturday off, what are we likely to find you doing?
Oh wow. Hanging out with my partner of going on 16 years, maybe working in the yard a bit, or reading, or watching movies, or taking a day trip somewhere. He is very good at getting me back into the real world with the three dimensional people.

Choose six adjectives to describe yourself.
Determined, anxious, friendly, curious, wishful, hopeful

Describe the perfect meal.
I love Italian food, so I’m going to have to say something with pasta and a red sauce, probably some meatballs (though not on Mondays, we try to do meatless Mondays and eat vegetarian that one day a week), a bottle of smooth red wine, preferably a pinot noir, some warm, fresh bread, and something rich and delicious for dessert. Good God, I just made myself really hungry. Ha! *sigh* I love Italian food.

If you were a dessert what would you be and why?
Sigh … a French silk pie. I love that pie. Mmmmm! Sounds delicious 🙂

Thank you for being here today, Hank!

An Excerpt from Bounty:

Josh could see the firelight reflected in Dex’s eyes and he reached out to squeeze his hand. A comfortable silence slid around them, filled with years of memories and trust.

“I’m sorry, Dex. I know this is tough for you, too. We’ll get through it together, just like we used to get in trouble growing up, right?”

Dex gave a dry chuckle and turned back. They looked at each other a long moment, the fire popping and crackling beside them. An excited flutter started in Josh’s stomach as the expression on Dex’s face changed, became more intense, charged with a sudden and dangerous attraction. With a stubborn will of its own, Josh’s cock bloomed into life, hard in moments and confined painfully inside his pants.

“Josh…”

Josh’s breath was locked in his chest. “Yes?”

Dex half stood out of the chair and leaned over the table, now so close Josh could feel his breath on his cheek. Josh’s cock throbbed as he stared into Dex’s eyes and fought down the panic building inside him.

What were they doing? This was Dex, his best friend and a sheriff’s deputy, and Josh was an outlaw. If Sheriff Haden discovered Dex had found Josh and not taken him into custody, Dex could be hung alongside Josh as a traitor. And, foregoing all of that, what would it do to their friendship?

Without another word, Dex moved closer and kissed him. It was a light kiss, questioning, just a brush of Dex’s lips against his own. But the feel of a man’s mouth against his, the scratch of whiskers, the realization that it was Dex who kissed him — handsome, loyal, and caring Dex — made Josh’s head spin.

The kiss lasted just a moment, but when Dex leaned back they smiled at each other.

“I’ve wanted you to do that for years,” Josh said.

Dex laughed and a blush rose in his cheeks. He looked away into the fire, and then back again, his grin showing off his dimples. “I’ve wanted you to do that for years.”

Josh smiled and leaned in for another kiss. This time there was no hesitation, no question if the kiss would be returned. They kissed for several minutes, mouths parting to admit the other’s questing tongue. Josh’s awareness narrowed to Dex’s mouth: the heat and force of his tongue, the feel of Dex’s teeth beneath his own tongue.

A sharp pop from the fire startled them both, and they broke apart, staring at each other.

“This is dangerous, Dex,” Josh said, “we shouldn’t do this.” The words sounded like a lie, even to his own ears. His cock pulsed within his trousers, aching to be free. He could feel that it already leaked, weeping for release with Dex.

“I’ve wanted to be with you for too long to care about that now.” Dex’s voice was low and spiked with lust, the timber of his words like a fist that wrapped around Josh’s cock and squeezed.

Dex moved fast, standing and pulling him out of his chair, crushing his mouth over Josh’s. Dex’s tongue lunged past Josh’s lips and filled his mouth, commanding and insistent. Dex’s large, rough hands pulled Josh against him and the heat of Dex’s body soaked into him, sinking in right to his bones, making him feel safe and loved.

They stretched out on the floor in front of the fire, Dex sprawled on top, his cock like a fence post pressed against Josh’s thigh. The kiss that had started frantic slowed and deepened. Dex’s fingers eased open the buttons of Josh’s shirt as they kissed and when it lay open, Dex pulled the bottom of his linen under shirt out of his pants. Sliding a hand beneath the soft fabric, Dex’s fingers finally touched Josh’s bare skin. Josh shivered at Dex’s touch and pulled back to gasp.

Dex slid off Josh and furrowed his brow as he looked down at him. “You all right?”

Josh felt himself blush and nodded as he smiled. “I’m all right. I just … I’ve never been touched that way before. It caught me by surprise is all.”

Dex smiled and leaned down to kiss him again. “Me neither,” he whispered.

A Sexy Taste of Reef’s Guardian

Sep 12, 2011 Filed under: book release, erotica, m/m, paranormal, shapeshifter Tags: , , , , , , , , , , ,

Welcome to Monday! To make the start of the week sexier, I’ve got another excerpt to share from Reef’s Guardian…..

Wet: Reef’s Guardian by Silvia Violet

Brett Leland serves as the director of an underwater research station located near one of the world’s last healthy coral reefs. His life’s work is focused on protecting the reef and discovering why it has remained healthy as others are failing. But his university plans to sell the research station, and someone is trying to sabotage his final mission.

Setiwan Maramis is one of the legendary shape shifting guardians of the reef. He’s been watching Brett since the scientist first came to the station, and he wants Brett as both an ally and a lover. He is forbidden to reveal himself to humans, but when an enemy puts Brett’s life in danger, Setiwan follows his heart rather than the dictates of his people.

Excerpt:

Setiwan pumped his arm-like fins and hovered near the corner of his tank. He’d spent the last few hours making a careful study of the lab and listening to the researchers as they worked around him. As he expected, all the animals Brett Leland and his research team had collected for study were well cared for.

Those who were able to communicate with Guardians let him know that while they longed to get back to the ocean, the humans hadn’t harmed them.

He swam over to a fake green fungus coral and practiced manipulating the color of his skin until he blended in with the coral. Then he tried the same trick next to a yellow sea fan. Guardians had the ability to take on the form of any reef dwelling animal, but Setiwan preferred cuttlefish. He enjoyed the complexity of their thought patterns and their seductive ability to shift the color of their skin at will. He’d practiced the color strobing technique enough to use it in his human form. He intended to wow Brett with it later.

He wasn’t certain Brett was gay. But the researcher had never shown any interest in the beautiful woman, Sophia, who worked with him despite her obvious crush on him. In Seti’s mind this meant he was either gay or way too nice. But gay or straight, Setiwan was determined to have his scientist. He could take on a female form if he must though he much preferred sex as a man. And pounding Brett’s ass until he screamed Seti’s name had featured in his fantasies regularly since Seti first saw him.

After getting Setiwan and the other cuttlefish settled in their tank, Brett had gone for another dive with one of the professors on his team, Andy he believed the man’s name was. Setiwan heard a splash and turned toward the wet room door. He saw two divers hoist themselves out of the water. It must be Brett and Andy; as far as he knew the other four researchers were all in the bunk room. Sophia had come out several minutes before to check the readings for the generator and air purification system and to feed some of the fish, but she’d returned to the other side of the station.

A moment later, the two men opened the door separating the wet room from the lab and placed a tank holding some anemones and clown fish on the floor of the lab. Then they both removed their scuba gear, and Andy stripped down to the Speedo he wore under his dive suit. “I’m headed to bed if you’re sure you don’t need me.”

Brett glanced at the clock. It was nearly eleven. It was easy to lose all track of day and night living underwater. “That’s fine. I want to get these fish settled into their tanks anyway. We all need some rest. I’ll brief everyone over breakfast at seven.”

The man nodded and headed toward the bunk room. Once Brett put the clown fish and anemones in a tank, he returned to the wet room. Setiwan swam to the far end of his tank where he could still see Brett clearly. Brett stripped off his dive suit, pushing the wet material slowly down his body. Air flowed faster through Setiwan’s gills, and his body displayed a dizzying swirl of colors as he watched the object of his desire reveal the gorgeous body he’d salivated over for weeks.

He’d often watched Brett at night as he stood at the observation window in board shorts or pajama pants. Brett’s arms and shoulders were beautifully sculpted. His chest was mostly hairless, but a tantalizing treasure trail disappeared beneath the waist of his pants. Setiwan often imagined kissing through the soft hair and sliding his tongue along Brett’s waistband as he pushed his pants down over his hips. Then he would take Brett’s cock in his mouth, tasting him and breathing in his scent.

Now he watched, mesmerized, as Brett pushed his wetsuit over his slim hips. He bent to push the suit down his leg, temporarily hiding his cock from view but treating Seti to the amazing sight of his tight muscular ass and his sac hanging between his legs. Seti wanted to leap out of the tank, shift to human form, and show Brett what he could do to that hot ass.

Brett pulled his dive suit over his feet and hung it to dry. Then he turned and Setiwan got a full frontal view. Even after the chill water, his cock was impressively thick where it lay nestled on his balls. Seti wanted to take it in his mouth and feel it harden as he sucked, licked, kissed. He forgot how to move his fins for a moment and nearly slammed into the side of the tank.

* * *

Brett grabbed a pair of board shorts off a hook and pulled them on. He frowned as he watched the tank containing the cuttlefish. The one who’d led him on a chase looked like he’d forgotten how to swim. Brett bent down and studied the creature more closely. He seemed all right now. Maybe Brett had startled him.

Once he was confident that the cuttlefish was swimming fine again, Brett checked the monitors for the power and life support systems. All readouts registered in the normal range. He sat down and turned his chair to face the observation window. He watched the fish, rays, and eels swim back and forth and his mind drifted once again to the mystery man who’d haunted his dreams since his last excursion here. His hand dropped to his cock, already semi-hard from the images in his mind. He lazily slid his hand up and down over the cotton fabric of his shorts. His cock hardened fully as he replayed his most recent dream.

The beautiful man with the long, silvery blond hair stood naked in the doorway of the bunk room. The other researchers had vanished. The man strode over to Brett’s bunk and climbed in on top of him. Brett was suddenly naked too. And the man was kissing him, licking him, biting him, making him lose himself to passion in a way he hadn’t in a long time.

Damn. He hadn’t meant to let his thoughts travel along this line, but in these cramped quarters privacy was nonexistent and need built over the course of an expedition. He listened carefully. Not hearing a sound from the bunk room, feeling like a horny teenager, he decided to risk it…

Dinner with a Hero – Silvia Violet – Setiwan

Sep 9, 2011 Filed under: book release, erotica, m/m, paranormal, recipes, shapeshifter, sweet treats

If I’m not writing or reading, you’ll likely find me in the kitchen trying out a new recipe or baking up sweet treats. I have a deep and abiding love for food. I think eating a really good chocolate cake is one of the most erotic experiences anyone can have. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that as I get to know my characters one of the first things I ask them is what they like to eat.

These details don’t always make it into my books, but I can’t really understand a man until I know what I would cook for him if he came to dinner at my house. I’ve asked some of my favorite authors to join me in making dinner for a character of their choice. Each week, one of us will be sharing a little about one of my heroes and a dinner I would make for him.

Today I’m cooking for Setiwan, one of the heroes of my latest release, Reef’s Guardian. He’s a Guardian, a magical creature who has a human form but can also take the form of any creature who lives on or around the coral reef his family is sworn to protect. When underwater he prefers the form of a cuttlefish, a blacktip reef shark or one of the reef’s other predators, and he enjoys a diet of fish and crustaceans. When on land he’s still likes to indulge in good, responsibly harvested seafood. He’s also got a sweet tooth, especially for anything involving tropical fruit and cream. So I’ll be making a spicy seafood bisque served with crusty grilled bread and an Asian-inspired salad. For dessert, I’m make my own recipe for banana pudding.

This Spicy Seafood Bisque is very easy to prepare, and it is one of my favorite dishes to make for guests. I replace the tomato juice and hot sauce with spicy V8 (the low salt version).  I always serve it with a loaf crusty bread that I slice, brush with olive oil or melted butter and grill either outside or on my stove top grill pan.

An Asian Salad with oranges and water chestnuts makes a perfect accompaniment.

Silvia’s Banana Pudding

1/3 cup flour

2/3 cup brown sugar

2 cups milk

2 egg yolks

2 T butter

1 tsp vanilla

1 cup heavy cream, whipped until stiff peaks form

4-6 bananas, slice (they should be fully ripe but not mushy)

Vanilla Wafers  (approximately half a box)

To make the custard:

Combine flour, sugar, and milk in a pan, cook over medium heat until thick and bubbly stirring frequently. Let it cook for about a minute at this stage then remove from heat. Stir about a cup of the hot mixture into beaten egg yolks. Return egg mixture to pan and bring to a boil. Let boil, stirring frequently for two minutes. Remove from heat and stir in butter and vanilla. Cool to room temperature. (To speed this up, I put the pan into a large bowl filled with ice and stir frequently. Once the mixture has cooled, fold in whipped cream.

To assemble:

Layer the bottom of a 2 qt casserole dish with vanilla wafers. Cover with banana slices. Then layer on 1/3 of the custard. Repeat two times. Cover and chill for at least an hour.

Reef’s Guardian will be here very very soon. Here’s a little taste…..

Blurb:

Excerpt:

“We can’t destroy the station.” Setiwan paced the length of his father’s office. Being on land too long always made him restless. He needed to get back in the water that afternoon even if only for a swim.

His father shook his head. “If the station falls into the Stanley Corp’s hands, we’ll have no choice.”

Seti fought the urge to yell. Why wouldn’t anyone listen to him? “If we fund a research team, the university won’t sell it.”

“Possibly. They may simply want to be rid of the burden.”

Seti sank heavily into one of the upholstered chairs in front of his father’s desk. He glanced out the window but from this angle a matrix of tall buildings blocked his view of the beach and the ocean beyond. “There are still enough humans who care about the environment to raise an uproar. The academics don’t need more bad press. Not if they can get the money elsewhere, at least that’s what Dr. Leland thinks.”

His father arched a brow. “You seem quite enamored of Dr. Leland.”

Heat crept into Setiwan’s face. He didn’t want to discuss his interest in the researcher with his father. “He’s an excellent scientist, and he’s passionate about reef conservation. He would help us protect the reef.”

His father frowned. “He’s human.”

“So are most of the people who work for you.”

“They’re in our land-based offices, not on the reef. If we let the humans work with us underwater, they are certain to learn our secrets and that –”

“Is forbidden by Guardian law.” Setiwan just managed to keep from rolling his eyes. “I know. You’ve been quoting these laws to me since I was a toddler. When those laws were made, the current levels of pollution and climate change were unimaginable.”

Setiwan’s father sighed. “True, but I can’t make a unilateral decision to change our protocols.”

Setiwan squeezed his hands into fists. Why was his father so damn reluctant to take charge? “Who can change the policy if not you? You’re one of the most respected and powerful Guardians. You’re in a position to fund research which could help the reef and even transform other reefs whose Guardians have renounced their duties.”

“I will not simply ignore the laws that have guided our people for centuries.”

But he could if he wanted to. Few Guardians had even half his power or his business sense. He’d started ExploreSafe and made it into an internationally respected company providing environmentally friendly equipment for diving and marine research. His father still worked out of the original office in Indonesia, but they now had offices in Australia, Japan, and the US. His father wanted the Guardians to have resources and contacts in the human world. Why wouldn’t he use those now?

His father tapped a pen against his desk. Setiwan looked up, his attention back on the man in front of him. His father spoke again. “Imagine what would happen if knowledge of our abilities got out.”

Setiwan frowned. That would be disastrous. He could see the headlines now, ExploreSafe CEO Practices Witchcraft, Businessman Claims He Can Change Form. And yet, what choice did they have if they were going to save their reef? “We have no way of knowing how much worse the situation will get. We may reach a point where we no longer have the power to keep our reef healthy. My energy is drained daily simply from counteracting the effects of pollutants and overly warm waters.”

His father tapped the end of a pen on his desk, a rare show of agitation. “What exactly are you asking me to do?”

“I want you to give the university enough funding to keep the station running and let their researchers work hand in hand with us to protect our reef and others in the region.”

His father frowned. “I can’t promise you that, not without more evidence that these researchers are trustworthy.”

Setiwan barely kept himself from grinning. His father hadn’t said no. He was actually considering his idea. What his father didn’t know was that Seti had extensive knowledge about Brett Leland’s research as well as the work of other research teams who’d spent time on the station.

Every time a new group of scientists arrived, Seti waited until they were all asleep and entered the station through the moon pool. He checked on the animals they’d taken from the reef and read through their records to ascertain their research goals. If their test subjects weren’t being properly cared for or their motives weren’t pure, he made sure little things went wrong, nothing to harm the humans but enough to hassle them and make them less likely to want to return.

The last time Brett Leland had come below, Setiwan took his explorations further. He’d crept into the station’s bunk room and watched Brett sleep. He couldn’t explain why the man called to him, but he hadn’t been able to stop himself from leaning down and brushing the man’s lips with his own. Brett had groaned, a low soft sound that had Seti stroking his cock and wishing he dared take his explorations further.

“I’ll go on board and talk to them.” Setiwan’s heart pounded. No other Guardian would dare make such a statement to his father. Hiding from humans while underwater was the number one Guardian law.
